After two difficult days, we apprehend terror with our day in the holy of holies tourism. With the pyramids and Abu Simbel, Valley of the Kings dream but also attracts all the risks of harassment of the poor non-group tourists. We take the ferry to the west bank without incident except for a driver felucca of telling me straight in the eye, 2 m from the ferry, there is no ferry that takes us in a felucca. Pathetic. On the boat, for harassment. In the end, a guy approaches us to ask ourselves what we are doing here. New tactic: absolute silence in response. We decided to speak only near the taxi parked on the shore. We moved quickly, to our surprise, a fair price for a taxi from 9h to 15h with sites that we want to 60 THE (see bottom of page for details).
Valley of Kings. The most eccentric of remains hidden behind the first mountains of the Theban necropolis. Tired of spending so much time building pyramids that are so easily plundered, the idea was to make later pharaohs tombs dug into the mountain, at a site difficult to access and accompanied by the temples, but built later.
With a ticket, we will visit 3 tombs. A nice keeper agrees not to tear our tickets with a little baksheesh, which allows us to see one another. We choose based on open graves to visit one of Amenhotep III (nice rooms with simple decor), Ramses I (1 room painted from top to bottom with a magnificent ceiling), Merneptah (downhill and super large burial chamber rather damaged unfortunately) and Ramses IV (idem Merneptah).
Temple of Hatshepsut. Great classic paradoxically seems smaller in person than in photographs.
impressive woman and she did build the temple. Few things are original, however, and the restoration is a bit unfair ... And let us not deny ourselves the pleasure of walking into a place that has regained some of its luster!
Tombs of the nobles. Stop to visit 3 tombs of the Nobles said. Localized right in a village of very poor people, we are harassed by children who ask in all languages "small money " 1 euro " pen" ... That is what happens with hordes of unconscious tourists who give themselves good conscience by giving money without thinking. Tourist one day, childhood forever deformed ...
I read in December 2006 in the world that the Egyptian government was going to raze the slums. Maybe when you pass the village of Qurna is gone ...
Apart from that, beautiful stucco carvings in the tomb of Ramose . Outside the channels, but much more evocative and sensual than the other tombs. Worth seeing.
Medinet Habu. Pretty temples with beautiful colors. We're a little tired of visiting the valley at no charge: indeed even if we are alone, the heat comes in the midst of the stones, cut the wind, it becomes really tough. But perhaps, to choose between a desert site in summer and crowded in winter, I prefer the summer ...
short stop on the return of the giants Memnom, 30 tour buses at a minimum for statues coarse and badly damaged ... Strange Egypt or sites are beautiful empty and some not so beautiful filled ! We take a picture and went home.
Train. Long wait at the station where to buy everything (a bottle of water, chips, a phone card), I'm looking for 3 stores have good prices. Long journey to Aswan in a car in poor condition.
Arrive in Aswan quiet or seems calmer and especially where it is cool to midnight. Luxor The episode comes to an end ... It's impossible not to be disappointed by this city that has so much history but is also difficult to bear ...
Hotel : 68 LE (El Salam Hotel - Aswan. We will stay there one night. Athor The hotel facing it is the same but cheaper and has a pool terrace itself. Magnificent views of the Nile and Elephantine Island)
Ferry : 1 LE / pers.
day Taxi: 60 ON (do not hesitate to go on the west bank and negotiate the price on the spot. All the people on the east side are con artists and organized all-inclusive hotels usually very very expensive! There really is not much road and the driver makes return trip to other tourists while visiting)
Visits: 60 LE / person. (Valley of the Kings : 30 LE (entitles a 3 graves .. but by giving a small tip has some guards (which in general are a little wink) it just does not get to tear the ticket and visit more graves; Ramose : 10; Hatchespout : 10; Medinet Habu : 10. The last two tickets to take to central funds, to other sites)
Train : 21 LE (Luxor - Aswan, departure at 17:30 - arriving around midnight)
Water : 20 LE (it is VERY VERY hot + does not buy on the sites themselves, it is overpriced)

NB: Photos PROHIBITED in the tombs. These lines were made WITHOUT FLASH. Do not imitate me if you do not control your camera. This degrades paints long.
Hardly anyone on the site and sometimes we are absolutely alone in the tombs. Valley of breathtaking beauty. It's hard to believe that here, as these rocks that were painted such pieces, which were full of such beautiful objects. What work it had to be back in this heat all in all senses!
While we were there, the Egyptian Progress has mentioned the discovery of a new tomb, KV 63 . Unfortunately it turned out it was empty when it opens ...
